The West Bengal government has launched a new mobile application to track the progress of government projects across the state, aiming to improve efficiency and accountability. The app will monitor a wide range of ongoing initiatives, including prominent state schemes such as "Pathashree," "Duare Ration," and "Jal Jeevan Mission," as well as central government projects like the National Highway Expansion. This digital tool is designed to provide real-time updates on project statuses, reducing the chances of delays, duplicated work, and mismanagement of resources.
In conjunction with the app, the state’s finance department has established an 8-member team of senior officers to ensure the accuracy of the data collected and submitted through the application. The team’s primary task is to verify the information, evaluate the progress of various projects, and take necessary corrective actions where discrepancies are found. This team will also be responsible for overseeing whether the required measures are taken to address delays and for ensuring that projects adhere to their planned timelines.
The newly introduced system mandates that government officers visit project sites in person to upload progress updates through the app. Officers must keep GPS tracking enabled, ensuring their presence at the project locations can be verified in real time. This move eliminates the option for remote reporting and aims to improve the accuracy and reliability of field inspections. The government intends to use this measure to enhance the transparency of the project monitoring process and make sure on-ground checks are conducted as per the scheduled timelines.
This initiative is being implemented as part of the state’s push to expedite the completion of various projects ahead of the 2026 West Bengal legislative elections. By improving the speed and accuracy of project monitoring, the government aims to ensure that ongoing welfare and infrastructure projects are delivered on time. The 8-member team will focus on ensuring that key initiatives, such as rural development projects under the Panchayat and rural development departments, are completed without unnecessary delays.
The app also facilitates tracking of national-level projects, particularly the expansion of national highways, which the Union Ministry of Road Transport has sought assistance from the state government to accelerate. With this new system, West Bengal’s government aims to integrate its efforts with central government priorities, ensuring smooth progress on both state and central schemes. The app will play a critical role in helping track developments in areas like road infrastructure, social welfare, and other government-funded projects.
